As unfortunate as it is, you pretty much summed up the current EV climate across America. Hopefully, the switch to Tesla's Supercharging standard will eventually make road trips less frustrating. But even then, as you said, the problem still remains that most utilitarian EVs can't match the capabilities of their gas counterparts.
